Iowa Good News: Updated 3/29/20 at 3:40 p.m.
It feels like a lot right now, doesn’t it? Everywhere you go, you hear and see the news of COVID-19 and what it is doing in Iowa and around the World. We have had to physically distance ourselves, and learn new ways to manage day-to-day life.
Yet, Iowans are resilient, intelligent, and resourceful people, who love a challenge. So, I have collected some of the stories from this week that made me smile, cry a happy tear, or just feel a deep sense of pride as an Iowan that we are working together because we are, indeed, all in this together.

Early on Saturday morning, the owners of Friedrichs Coffee in Des Moines handed out 500-pounds of coffee, just because people needed a little pick-me-up. The Des Moines Register covered it and included a photo essay.

If you are looking for a part-time job because you have been laid off, the Greater Des Moines Partnership has set up an Employment Resource page to help you connect with employers.
There are still ways to support Des Moines Area Businesses, even if they are having to limit service, or close completely. DSM4Kids.com breaks it out in five ways.
Iowans are stepping up to donate to great causes, including the Food Bank of Iowa who has been overwhelmed by new Iowans in need due to layoffs and having their hours cut due to COVID-19, you can too.
Corporate Good News:
Hy-Vee is now taking donations at all of its checkouts to replenish the shelves at the Food Bank of Iowa. They will also offer bonuses, and job protection if they get sick, to their front line workers during the outbreak.
Fareway is offering workers extra paid time off to show their appreciation of front line workers.
Both Kum & Go and Casey’s are increasing pay for hourly workers during the crisis and giving bonuses to managers to show appreciation.
