Mushroom and Swiss Burgers

2 lbs ground beef (95% lean)
salt and pepper to taste
4 slices Swiss cheese
Tassel Ridge American Merlot Mushroom Sauce (recipe below)
4 Kaiser buns, toasted
4 lettuce leaves

Lightly shape beef into four burgers, ¾-inch thick. Season with salt and pepper. Grill over medium high heat 5 to 7 minutes per side until burgers are cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F). Top with cheese. Serve on bun and top with American Merlot Mushroom Sauce and lettuce leaf.

Tassel Ridge® American Merlot Mushroom Sauce

1 Tbsp butter
1 tsp garlic, minced
2 oz mushrooms, sliced
1 cup Tassel Ridge American Merlot
2 tsp dried thyme
1 cup water
1 heaping Tbsp cornstarch
salt and pepper to taste

Sauté mushrooms and garlic in butter until mushrooms are soft. Set aside. Combine broth, wine, and thyme in saucepan. Heat to a boil. Whisk water and cornstarch together in a separate bowl. Add to heated broth. Whisk, about 1 minute, until combined thoroughly and thickened. Stir in mushrooms.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Serves 4.
