I grew up on a farm outside of Stuart, IA but spent enough time in and around the metro during the weekends growing up that I can still consider myself a “local.”
After high school I spent a few years getting a degree at the University of Iowa (almost enough that I should be called Dr.) and working for a group of radio stations in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area. A tour of duty in Chicagoland followed before I found myself back where it all began – here in Central Iowa. After several years in radio, though, I had begun to itch for something different which led to:
- Sales (I'm quite possibly the world's WORST salesperson)
- Television (where I learned that I have a face for radio)
- Technical Writing (I specialized in writing for the technology field...and though I actually did enjoy it, it really was just as boring as it sounds).
The lesson: It's best to not scratch an itch (you'd think I'd know that as much as I'm saying it to the kids during mosquito season) – and if there's something you love to do...KEEP DOING IT!!!
In my free time I enjoy cooking, golfing and – most of all – spending time with my family. My wife, Mary, and I have four kids between us (Hannah, 11; Corinne, 7; Mia, 5; and Riley, 2) that keep us PLENTY busy! Other than that...well, I guess when I'm not with them I'm here at the station... But I have the greatest problem in the world: I love going to work every morning just as much as I love going home to them every night!
If there's ever anything I can help out with (song titles, concert information, instructions on making a roux), please don't hesitate to send me an email or call me in the studio!
