1969: Singer Janis Joplin was arrested in Tampa, Florida, for using vulgar and indecent language at her concert. Joplin was released on bond, and the charges eventually were dropped.

1980: David Bowie opened on Broadway in the title role of “The Elephant Man.”

1990: Milli Vanilli producer Frank Farian admitted that Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan didn’t sing a note on their “Girl You Know It’s True” album.

1996: Michael Jackson married dermatologist aide Debbie Rowe in Sydney, Australia. She was six months pregnant with his child. They later divorced.

2000: Michael Abram was acquitted of stabbing George Harrison in his home. Abram was found innocent by reason of insanity.

2004: Rapper Dr. Dre was punched at the Vibe Awards by Jimmy “James” Johnson, who was then stabbed by rapper Young Buck.

Bandleader Kevin Eubanks (“The Tonight Show With Jay Leno”) is 56. Rapper E-40 is 46. Country singer Jack Ingram is 43. Drummer David Carr of Third Day is 39. Singer Chad Kroeger of Nickelback is 39. Drummer Jesse Sandoval (The Shins) is 39. Actor Sean Murray (“NCIS”) is 36. Actress Emma Dumont (“Bunheads”) is 19.

Aretha Franklin storms out of fast food joint

The 71-year-old has canceled several concerts and public appearances and blamed it on unspecified treatment.

Aretha Franklin stormed out a Johnny Rockets in Ontario, Canada last week after a nasty encounter with a rude employee.

The Beatles wanted to film ‘Lord of the Rings’

The woman who as a child was the basis for the Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is gravely ill. It was thought by many at the time that the psychedelic song from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band was a paean to LSD because of the initials in the title, but it was actually based on a drawing that John Lennon's young son Julian brought home from school. He told his father the drawing was of Lucy in the sky with diamonds. Lucy Vodden, now living in Surrey just outside of London _ drifted apart after schoolyard days, but they have gotten back in touch as Lennon has tried to help Vodden cope with Lupus, a life-threatening disease.
