Stevie Wonder is to receive the inaugural Epitome of Soul award at a special event in Memphis, Tennessee in October.

The “Superstition” hitmaker will be handed the honor at A Soulright Evening, a musical gala staged by The Consortium MMT (Memphis Music Town).

Wonder will perform at the event, and several other musicians will pay homage to him with their own versions of some of his biggest hits.

The Consortium MMT founder David Porter says, “The legacy of soul music and Memphis deserves the best. Having Stevie Wonder as the honoree is a true testament to that. Memphis is rich in musical history and provides the perfect backdrop for a celebration honoring one of soul’s greatest artists, the Epitome of Soul.”

The event is scheduled to take place on Oct. 11 at the Cannon Center in Memphis.

The Consortium MMT aims to provide links between record industry professionals and budding musicians in Memphis and the surrounding areas.
