KIOA’s 40 Mentors in 30 Days

KIOA needs mentors and we need your help! It’s KIOA’s “40 Mentors in 30 Days,” Presented by Mediacom Careers – Giving Kids the Power to Succeed. Mentor Iowa currently has many children on the waiting list for a mentor that can make a difference in their life.

Becoming a Mentor
Mentors are good listeners, caring friends, confidence builders, and ordinary people. Some are professionals, others are homemakers, retirees, or students. While some volunteers are married, many others are single. All it takes is six hours per month and you can make a positive impact in a child’s life.

All volunteer mentors inherently possess the two most significant mentor requirements:

  1. The ability to become a friend
  2. The desire to make a difference in the life of a child

About Mentor Iowa
The mission of Mentor Iowa is to provide trained volunteer mentors to abused, neglected and delinquent children who are under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court. We will do this by working in partnership with the children, their families, and the community.

Mentoring Facts
Youth involved in mentoring programs have been shown to be less likely to experiment with drugs, less likely to be physically aggressive, and less likely to skip school than those not involved in such programs.

  • 46% of mentored teens are less likely to use drugs
  • 59% of mentored teens get better grades
  • Kids in the Mentor Iowa program are between the ages of 4–18
  • Mentor Iowa has a need for male Mentors
  • Biggest misconception: The kids are bad kids
