Adapted from Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, edited by Otto Frank, the play is the account of a young Jewish girl, her family & four other Jews who go into hiding during WWII to escape the Nazi persecution.

15th Annual AIDS Run/Walk

April 11, 2015 - 9:00 am - 11:00 am at Des Moines University

Join us for the 15th Annual AIDS Walk/Run! This fun 1-mile walk or challenging 5K run winds through the beautiful campus of Des Moines University and the historic South of Grand neighborhood. The event is Saturday, April 11 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Pets, children and families of all ages are welcome on the route. There will be raffle items, face painting, Starbucks Coffee, entertainment from the Isiserettes Drum Corps, and educational and awareness activities along the race course.

Plunge teams are recommended to register online. Teams of 10 or more are encouraged. You can recruit a team or be placed on one the day of the Plunge. Prize categories include best costume (individual and team), top individual fundraiser, top online fundraiser (as of Feb. 24) and top “chicken” fundraiser. A post party will be held immediately after the Plunge. Enjoy fun, food, drink, music, drawings and silent auction. Lunch can be purchased for spectators at registration for $5 ages 6+, 5 and under eat for free. The more money you raise, the more great Polar Plunge gear you can earn!

2015 YESS Duck Derby

You won’t want to miss the quack-tacular 8th Annual YESS Duck Derby! The fun starts at Noon, when you and your friends and family can enjoy FREE entertainment, kids’ activities, and food samples from Jordan Creek-area restaurants.  At 2:00pm, thousands of yellow rubber ducks will race through the lake at Jordan Creek Town Center, all vying to cross the finish line first and be named Top Duck. You can adopt a duck (or a whole flock!) and cheer it on to victory and the chance to win fantastic prizes, including $10,000 cash!

Gourmet Gala (fundraiser)

The Gourmet Gala is a cooking contest consisting of tops chefs who are employed by ISU Dining who each prepare a meal for guests who are invited to taste and judge. At the end of the night a winner will be awarded the silver spoon. This event is held as a fundraiser for guest to donate and support Special Olympics.

Special Olympics Iowa Plane Pull

It’s a giant tug of war between you, your friends and a 120,000-pound airplane!  The Plane Pull is a unique opportunity for individuals and organizations to raise money and support SOIA athletes by pulling a UPS 757.  In 2014, sponsors and participants of the Plane Pull raised more than $105,000 for Iowa athletes, giving them opportunities to participate in year-round sports, health and educational programming – and most importantly – experience joy, pride and respect.

A New York City doctor says U2 singer Bono suffered multiple fractures and had to have two surgeries after his weekend bicycle accident. Orthopedic trauma surgeon Dr. Dean Lorich says Bono underwent a five-hour surgery on his elbow in which three plates and 18 screws were inserted on Sunday night. Bono had another surgery to repair a fracture to his left pinkie on Monday. Lorich says Bono will need therapy but a full recovery is expected.
