Shirley Hass’s 1959 Chevy Impala
1959 Chevy Impala
When our kids left home for college and we had empty nest syndrome we decided to restore this 1959 Chevy that we had sitting in the extra garage. We had used it for a 2nd car at one time and I didn’t like it because it was breaking down all the time.
We took it off the frame and restored from the frame up and replaced the upholstery with the same fabric.
It had a 283 engine in it and and my husband took it out to rebuild it and put a 350 in the car. Long story he never did get the 283 rebuilt so it still has the 350 in it with the 283 sitting in the garage on a to do list.
We just enjoyed driving it and going to parades and car shows. We did not enter car shows because we didn’t like cleaning and shining the car but we enjoyed the other cars. The little kids call it the Bat Mobile because of the fins.
My husband passed away 6/16/2008 from cancer. When he was in Hospice we had the car detailed and and it was beautiful and he wanted us to ride in it for his funeral. We did and it was special.
Our daughter used it for her wedding and last year a friend ask if she could use it for her wedding so it might become the wedding limo.
The 1st year I thought about selling it but glad I didn’t because now I really enjoy the car and my Son drives it in parades with me and I take friends to car shows.
I entered my first car show in the local car show in Woodward and won my first trophy with 3rd place.
